The White House is asking Congress to approve legislation that would re-define Common Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions, essentially permitting abusive interrogations to continue.
In the words of Former Secretary of State General Colin L. Powell, the administration's proposal "would put our own troops at risk" by inviting other nations to treat them in the same abusive manner.
This is legally and morally unacceptable by any standards. Tell your senators to reject the White House's proposal!
