Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit Human Rights First. The short explanation of this alert was: Despite the recent signing of a peace agreement between the government of Sudan and one rebel faction, the security situation in Darfur remains tense: violence continues, the humanitarian relief work of international nongovernmental organizations remains greatly restricted, and the civilian toll is still climbing. There is an urgent need for greater action by the United Nations and its members, including the United States, to bring an end to the human rights emergency in the Darfur region of Sudan. Human Rights First urges the Secretary-General of the United Nations, in cooperation with the United States and other key countries, to appoint a prominent envoy to help steer the implementation of the recently signed Darfur Peace Agreement and further related negotiations to achieve a lasting peace. The appointment of a high-level envoy will be a visible symbol of renewed political and diplomatic will to resolve the Darfur crisis. Join Human Rights First in urging Secretary General Annan and President Bush to appoint a peace envoy that will help resolve the crisis. Show your HOPE for Darfur!
