Mr. al-Bunni is facing charges that clearly arise from his peaceful, legitimate human rights activities. Anwar al-Bunni's brother, Akram al-Bunni, also a well-known human rights defender, was prevented in January from leaving Syria to attend human rights related-meetings in Brussels. Mr. al-Bunni's imprisonment and the restrictions put on his brother's freedom of movement are part of a persistent policy of repression conducted by the Syrian government to prevent human rights defenders from carrying out their legitimate, non-violent activities. Anwar al-Bunni's trial is due to resume on February 18, 2007. Please support Anwar al-Bunni in his struggle for human rights by urging the Syrian authorities to release him immediately.
